The Songflower Chorale
Our 2018-2019 Season is upon us:
In our last concert performance we featured new works by student composers from the area, alongside works by some of the noteworthy students and teachers of musical history.
This fall's program is centered on the English tradition. Often when we think of the innovators and leaders of music history we look to Italy or Germany; but the choral masters of Britain have at times contributed key sparks which overtook western music. We will celebrate with a variety of works of Renaissance masters which led the way in the development of harmony, alongside samples of the oratorio tradition which, through the international Handel, flowed back to inspire continental composers like Haydn and Mendelssohn. We will honor some of the English Romantics, and finally visit the brilliant Anglican choral tradition, which is alive and well in the Kansas City area.
Our concert will be on Sunday, November 18th, at 7:30 pm, at Historic St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1307 Holmes Road, Kansas City MO. Admission is free; donations are warmly accepted!
We will also present at the same Historic St. Mary's Episcopal Church a choral evensong on Sunday October 21st at 5:00pm, featuring fresh settings of the venerable liturgical text.
